The Elder Scrolls Online will be getting a huge overhaul in two months time as the upgraded PlayStation 5 version has been confirmed to be nearing launch. Bethesda's MMO will be hitting PS5 on 8th June 2021, bringing with it a long list of visual and technical enhancements. Those who already own the game on PS4 will be entitled to a free upgrade and the trailer above can start to give you a good idea of what to expect. From the looks of things, this is an impressively meaty upgrade that will make the world of The Elder Scrolls Online shine on consoles.
First and foremost, the MMO will run at 60 frames-per-second when Performance Mode is selected. Currently capped at 30, it'll be the upgrade that seasoned players will notice the most. Not far behind will be shorter load times, with a very detailed blog post on The Elder Scrolls Online website stating some have been cut almost in half. Draw distances have also been almost doubled across the board, PS5 will support higher resolution textures, and improved antialiasing helps to further smoothen greenery and in-game structures.
The developer also focused its efforts on enhancing reflections, which will be most noticeable in areas featuring water. Shadows have gotten so much love that what you see on PS5 will be equivalent to Ultra settings on PC while the depth of field will create even more realistic background views. Lastly, ambient occlusion and screen space global illumination have both received an upgrade, but we're not going to sit here and pretend we know what either of those features are.
The PS5 version will launch on the same day as upcoming expansion The Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood, meaning you can enjoy that new content natively on Sony's latest system from day one. Are you looking forward to checking out these major updates? Could they tempt you into trying the MMO out for the first time? Role play in the comments below.

One Thing I Wish They Would Do Is Get Rid Of The Emperor Trophy.
Skyrim Ultra Legendary Dragon Edition for Ps5 please, thank you Todd.
haven't touched it in donkeys years, the original looked washed out and grainy low res, reminded me of the bizarre aesthetic of monster hunter, will be interesting to see how different the ps5 version is
It’s such a shame they didn’t do tab targeting for this game. I love everything about it besides the combat 😔
Free upgrade? I’m afraid this one must be an April Fools’ joke 😉
Does this mean you can delete the massive PS4 version, and redownload the PS5 version? Or it just the pS4 version with upgrades if it detects it's a PS5? Did they apply Oodle Kraken to the PS5 version?
TESO with even higher resolution textures, though? That sound you just heard was your SSD's remaining free space.😅
@Digit2021 you should be able to delete the PS4 version providing you bought it digitally as once the purchase is made the PS5 version will be available as free upgrade.
The only time you would need PS4 version installed is if you have the CD version as CD needed to play PS5.
Very much looking forward to this, was disappointed with the game on PS4 but it sounds like it will be much improved on PS5.
Best video game news I’ve heard all year! As the game that I play almost exclusively I’m very excited for this!
@The_Real_JMK Zenimax also announced that completely new servers will be used for ESO. They’re spendin’ that Microsoft money!
👎 no thank you.i didnt enjoy eso at all.word up son
Looks good but not THAT different to the 1080p enhanced mode but at 4K presumably?
Thing is the PS5 can load the client as fast as it wants, it's the data throughput (or lack of) from the ZOS servers that's always been the problem.
Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim.... and they choose that online crap.
Hopefully Sony will enable the SSD expansion before then, otherwise I will stick with the PS4 version.
I had heard that ESO ran at 4K/30fps on PS Pro, so what is the resolution for PS5? I assume not 4K since there is no mention?
Unless it fixes the awful combat, I don't care.
@frankmcma ESO is indeed stuck at 30fps on the Pro not due to the limits of the Pro but to make game play fair for people with base PS4s when encountering people with Pros who otherwise would've had a performance advantage.
I wonder how the PS5@60fps will enable 'fair' encounters (mainly PvP) as they were reputedly going to be hosted on the same creaking servers as the PS4 community? Also, if they are all on the same servers, will the Pro get any kind of boost?
Now enemy projectiles can hit you through walls, but now on PS5.
Where can you buy a PS5? Apart from scalpers? What a joke Sony.
I'm not seeing anything my old gaming pc cant do better here...i run skyrim on my pc with a shed load of mods...way too many to list here and hit well over 60fps..really this is just lazy as sin from bethesda and people are sad to see them go...so last, last gen...
